Decatur, Georgia

Decatur is an in-town suburb of Atlanta and county seat of Dekalb County, Georgia. According to Wikipedia, it was founded at the intersection of two native American trails, the Sandtown and the Shallowford. In the 60s and 70s there was a significant decrease in property value but more recently due to long-term downtown development plans , Decatur became a small multi-purpose district with an easy commute to Atlanta. There are plenty of neighborhoods in Decature including Adiar Park, Chelsea Heights, EverGreen Forest, Downtown Decatur, Parkwood and more.

The Decatur City School District encompasses pres-school to grade 12, with four elementary schools, a middle school and a high school with more than 2500 students.

If you like history, note that there are many points of interest in Decatur, some historic structures even on the National Register of Historic Places. The South Candler Street-Agnes Scott College District includes both a college campus and surrounding historic homes. Clairmont Historic District which is north of Deacatur Square. It primarily consists of residences and churches with numerous architectural styles including Craftsman Bungalows, English Vernacular Revival, American Foursquare, Dutch Colonial and Georgia Vernacular Bungalows. The churches in the area are First Baptist Church, First Church of Christ and Lutheran Church of the Messiah. The area also has parks including Woodlands, Peaving Creek Watershed and Waddell Park. For something different, heads out to Farmstead 303, a restaurant that’s where the old railway depot was.
