The automobile industry has focused on becoming more environmentally friendly by creating hybrid vehicles that not only save the owner money on gas, but also save mother earth from harmful pollution. Auto makers are not the only ones who have decided to “Go Green.”
The moving industry is historically notorious for waste; cardboard boxes, tape, and paper used to wrap and protect those fragile items during relocation leave you with piles of garbage after unpacking.
A California company has figured out a more eco-friendly way to move. Spencer Brown, the owner of Rentagreenbox.com, explains how it works. He shows up with a truck full of Recopacks, rentable plastic bins made entirely from recycled plastic. The client packs them, the moving company moves them and one week after the move Mr. Brown would return to pick up the empty boxes.
Fortune 500 companies have been using plastic containers to move for years. It’s a welcome change that this option is now available for residential moves. When Mr. Brown began his business in 2006 about 3,500 of his crates were being used for residential moves at any given time, in 2008 that number soared to about 7,500.
Other moving companies are taking steps to become greener, including converting trucks to biodiesel, setting up free cardboard box exchanges, and offering biodegradable options for bubble wrap.
Moving can be stressful and at the last thing consumers want is any last minute surprises. Here at All My Sons we are committed to making the moving experience as hassle free as possible. |
